About the Artist

Rose Ann Bernatovich moved to NY when she was six and lived there most of her life. Moving to NY gave her the opportunity to immerse herself in the various museums, on Long Island where she grew up, and in Manhattan.

As far back as she can remember her mother was always encouraging her to draw. She often went to  her mother’s part time job in an interior decorating company after school. They soon found out that they could amuse her by giving her a pen or pencil and a pad of paper. She grew up drawing and flipping through books of fabric swatches, totally fascinated by all the brilliant colors.

She kept drawing throughout her life and reached a point where she saw it as an art form, as a means to express herself creatively. She works in oils as well as charcoal rendering portraits and still life paintings and drawings. Creating a portrait or still life is much more than capturing a likeness to her, she strives to capture an essence, some personality trait in a portrait or a mood in a still life.  It is a psychological journey as well as an artistic one for her.
